Kyauk Pru: A Chinese company operating on Madae Island in Kyaukpru in western Burma's Arakan State has paid 2,000 kyat in compensation to a woman who has been hospitalized with serious injuries after being hit by a car.

"I do not know how they think of people, because they have compensated just 2,000 kyat, which is nothing more than a coast of five teas, to the woman after hitting her with a car. Now we are preparing to open a case against them with the police for their flippancy in the situation," said one of her relatives.
The woman was identified as Ma San Pe, and she is still undergoing emergency medical treatment in Kyaukpru hospital.
The accident took place around 10 am on 15 May when she was returning after sending rice to her relative working at the company. She sustained serious injuries on the right side of her body the accident and was left unable to move, with her ears bleeding.
According to the witnesses, the driver was drunk at the time of the accident and hit her from behind while driving recklessly.
"They took her to their workplace in their car after the accident and when they saw bleeding from her ears, they sent her to the village clinic with 2,000 kyat. The clinic referred her to the Kyaukpru hospital because her injuries were serious," said her relative.
The relative added that they are now preparing to file charges against the company and the driver for neglecting the victim after giving her just 2,000 kyat as compensation.
